Wisdom Is Still Calling: Proverbs 1

đź“– Today’s Scripture: Proverbs 1 — Read NLT | Read KJV

🌿 Main Idea

Proverbs 1 is an invitation to choose wisdom, and a warning about what happens when we ignore it. Wisdom begins with respecting God, and He keeps calling us to it.

God is still calling. Wisdom is still crying out. Will we listen?

đź“– Key Points from Proverbs 1

1. Wisdom starts with honoring God (verse 7).

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.” This means reverence and trust, not terror. Knowing facts isn’t the same as having wisdom. Wisdom begins when we put God first.

2. Wise people stay teachable (verses 5, 8–9).

A wise person keeps listening and learning. Solomon also tells us to value the guidance of our parents, calling it “an ornament of grace,” something beautiful to wear.

3. Don’t follow the crowd when it leads somewhere wrong (verses 10–19).

Sinners will invite us in with promises of quick gain. But Solomon says greed ends up harming the person who chases it. Those who set the trap are caught in it themselves.

4. Wisdom is calling out loud (verses 20–23).

She isn’t hidden. She cries out in the streets and public squares. God makes wisdom available to everyone, and He promises to pour out His Spirit on those who turn to Him.

5. Ignoring God’s voice has consequences (verses 24–32).

The people here refused the call again and again, and verse 31 says they “eat of the fruit of their own way.” God isn’t being cruel. When we reject His guidance, we live with the results of our own choices.

6. The promise (verse 33).

“Whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.”

Those who listen find peace and security.

🌱 What This Means for Today

  • Peer pressure and “get rich quick” culture. Scams, shortcuts, and online pressure to join in all promise easy gain. God says to walk away.
  • Information overload. We have more information than any generation before us, yet wisdom is scarce. Start with God.
  • A noisy world. Wisdom is still calling out, but we have to stop long enough to hear it.
  • Staying teachable. In a culture that prizes having your own opinion, the wise person is the one who still listens: to God, to parents, and to godly counsel.
  • God’s patience. He calls, reaches out, and offers to pour out His Spirit. The door is open now.

God is still calling. Wisdom is still crying out. Will we listen?

Putting It Into Practice

This week, choose one way to listen for God’s wisdom each day. Before making a decision, pause and ask, “Lord, what does Your Word say about this?”

  • Take a few minutes each day to read Proverbs 1.
  • Ask God to help you recognize wise choices and turn away from harmful ones.
  • Choose one area where you need God’s guidance, and pray about it before acting.

🙏 A Prayer for Today

Father God, thank You this morning for Your goodness, mercy, and grace. Thank You that You don’t hide wisdom from us, but call out to us again and again.

Forgive us for the times we ignored Your voice and followed our own way. Give us hearts that honor You and ears that are quick to listen. Make us teachable, and help us value the godly counsel of those You’ve placed in our lives.

Keep us from being pulled along by the crowd or tempted by quick and easy gain. Help us walk away from anything that leads us from You.

Pour out Your Spirit on us today. Teach us Your ways, lead us on a straight path, and let us dwell safely and be quiet from the fear of evil, trusting in You alone.

In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
